Painting your small bathtubs and bathroom a different color can be a great and inexpensive way to decorate. There are several techniques that you can learn to use if you want to break away from the traditional paint and get into sponging, ragging, rolling, etc. Sponging two or three colors on your bathroom wall will give your bathroom a whole different look and usually takes a small amount of time to do. If you are not sure how to do any of these techniques, you can always take a free class at your local hardware store and learn how to do these special painting techniques.
Using baskets and small bathroom cabinets can be fun and can spruce up your small bathroom. You can gather hand made soaps into small baskets as well as small towels or even a small basket plant. For my child’s bathroom, I took a colorful basket and rolled up all of his washcloths and placed them stragically into the basket and placed it on the counter. This gave his bathroom a little more of a personal touch without making it look too frilly. Baskets are great, just make sure to pick out the smaller ones or the oddly shaped ones will work too, making sure to not over stuff your bathroom with too big of a basket.

Use Only a Few Mirrors. While it is true that mirrors create a feeling of space, overdoing it shows otherwise. Using too many mirrors in a small bathroom only emphasizes the corners of the room. Be very careful where you install your mirrors. Installing them opposite of each other will not do. You should limit the mirrors for it will only show you how small the space is. Clear out your bathroom walls to create more space for your small bathroom design.
So with a little planning, you can renovate your small bathroom quite easily yourself. Be sure to set your budget before you start otherwise you run the risk of cost overruns. You can do most of the items mentioned here as simple DIY projects over weekends or after work. Make sure that you have all the tools you need before starting a task. Most of the more expensive tools can be hired quite cheaply by the hour or the day.
Put Only What You Need. Ask yourself if you really want a bathroom that doubles as a living room. Chances are you will only really be spending a limited time in your bathroom. You are also not likely to be doing a lot of things in it. If you use your bathroom as it is meant to be used, then you don’t need a lot of things in it. Get rid of extra fixtures and storage units. Keep only those that you can actually use for a little relaxation and for the essential functions of a bathroom.
